The device got immensely popular as the concept of wireless earbuds was an absolutely new idea to the users and the Apple AirPods introduced so many innovative and promising features for the users. Apple managed to have an engrossing business with their AirPods as there were no competitor to produces wireless earbud devices. However, the scenario has changed for Apple cause some top companies like Xiaomi and Samsung released their versions of earbuds lately. Their price range and specifications made them also famous in the accessory industry. So it created a pressure for Apple to update their device and make a superior version of their AirPods.

Finally Apple made an updated version of their earbuds called Apple AirPods 2nd Generation in March this year. Enhanced battery performance and new internal chip is the main focus of this upgrade. Let’s find out how upgraded the 2nd generation device is than the primary one—

The first thing to find out if Apple AirPods 2 has any upgraded design. The previous AirPods reportedly received massive criticism for following the same old Apple earphone design, only wireless. The wireless earphones was prone to fall from ear because they did not follow an in-ear earbud design. Another criticism the Apple AirPods received because of its no color option. The first generation AirPods was released in only white color which disappointed most of the fans for not keeping an option for black or grey. Surprisingly, Apple still has not changed its design for Apple AirPods 2nd Generation. The same old Apple earphone design without the wire still has the risk to fall out from the users’ ear. Although there is fewer chances to fall out if you stay in a normal position. The positive part of the design was its lightweight and comfortable design, and the AirPods 2nd Generation kept it up. But the same old design really ruined the vibe of something new and exclusive although there are quite some changes internally.

The most significant thing to talk about the upgrade is the chip. The Apple AirPods 1st Generation was run by a W1 chip which use motion accelerometer and an optical sensor to detect whether they are in your ears or not. But in the 2nd generation Apple AirPods, they changed the chipset. The earbuds are now configured with a H1 processor chip which supports a hands free “Hey Siri” and Bluetooth 5 connectivity. So it offers a faster and more stable wireless connection to your devices, Apple claimed that the new chipset can connect up to 2x faster than before. According to them, this chip also delivers up to 30 percent lower gaming latency. So, it produces a higher quality audio for the best experience.

Apple has as usual kept their previous optical sensors and motion accelerometers to control the audio experience, using the microphone for Siri & phone calls and most importantly enable the device when they are in your ears. An additional speech detecting sensor recognizes your voice when you are speaking and connect with the microphones to filter out the external noise and focus on the sound of your voice.

One of the most important upgrades on this device was its power configuration. The previous version received criticism for the battery draining properties. The Lithium ion battery in the 1st generation AirPods tend to drain charge even when it was sitting idle. According to Apple, they solved this problem by an updated firmware in the 2nd generation AirPods. The battery backup and charging box backup remains the same as before. The first generation already had a decent battery backup of 5 hours of listening time and up to 24 hours back up from the charging box.

A new addition to the power configuration is the wireless charging box. Apple introduced a new charging box that comes separately pricing at 40$. This is kind of convenient because you can charge your AirPods any time with a charging mat.

Apple kept the same price for AirPods 2nd generation as the primary one. 159 dollars for a pair, but this time they kept an option along with the wireless charging box at 199 dollars. The price point is still expensive, but considering the upgraded specifications and features, you would not be entirely disappointed trying these little jukebox in your ears.
